Regional Reps Newsletter August 2026

The North West Region u3a Council Representative plays an important role in strengthening communication and cooperation between their local u3a, the North West Region, and the Third Age Trust. Acting as a two-way communication link, the representative ensures that information, opportunities, guidance and strategic developments from both the Region and the Third Age Trust are shared with local members, while also communicating local views, successes and concerns back to regional and national bodies.
Representatives attend regional meetings, support the work of the North West Regional Committee, and encourage participation in regional learning events, workshops, interest groups and conferences. They help promote the aims and values of the u3a movement, fostering lifelong learning, friendship and member-led activity.
A key aspect of the role is liaison with the Third Age Trust, the national organisation that supports and oversees the u3a movement across the UK. Through regional communication channels, representatives help ensure that national policies, safeguarding guidance, governance updates and development initiatives are understood and implemented at local level. Equally, they help local u3as contribute feedback and ideas that can influence regional and national priorities.
By connecting local u3as with both the North West Region and the Third Age Trust, the representative helps ensure that members benefit from a strong, informed and collaborative network that supports the continued growth and success of the u3a movement.
The North West Region two Council Representatives are:
Gill Russell
and
David Blanchflower
