The Southport Flower Show gave the small and regional u3as a fantastic opportunity to reach hundreds of visitors and show just how much they have to offer. Our joint stand enjoyed a steady stream of visitors throughout the four days, helped by almost perfect weather.
The stand was sponsored by Meols (Southport), Becconsall, Leyland, Parbold, Ormskirk, Crosby, St Helens, Bolton and Oxton, Prenton & District u3as, with volunteers from across the region creating a friendly and welcoming showcase for the smaller and regional u3as.
Many visitors knew little or nothing about u3a before stopping to talk to us. They were impressed by the wide range of activities available through local u3as, and a number told us they intended to find and join their local u3a.
Photographs, posters, leaflets and displays highlighted activities including walking, local history, book groups, Mah Jong, social outings and Knit & Natter. We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor of Sefton to the stand.
Encouragingly, Meols (Southport) u3a’s website statistics showed a noticeable increase in visitors and page views during and immediately after the Flower Show, suggesting that the stand prompted more people to find out about u3a.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored, volunteered and helped make the stand such a success.
